   The article reads as follows:
Surf Bather Dies Of Neck Injuries Here
Grover Willis Masters, 31 of Fresno died Sunday at 4:30 a.m. at  the county hospital from in juries received more than a week ago when he suffered a broken neck while surf bathing.
Masters was said by witnesses to have been diving into the surf near Twin Lakes July 23 when he struck the sand instead and broke his neck.

He was rescued at the time by Mr. and Mrs. Fred I. Bippert of Santa Cruz and Mrs. Lester Eisley and taken to the county hospital .
He was a veteran of World War II, an electrician by trade, unmarried, and the son of Lawrence Masters and Mrs. Emily Werich [Winch], both of Fresno.
The Fresno man was here on vacation and had been since July 20.
The body was removed to White's mortuary prior to its removal to Fresno where funeral services will be conducted from the Yest and Webb funeral Home.

I asked my Dad about Grover. I gathered that he and my father were very close - they were 2 males living with 4 females. Dad said that he stayed with Grover in the hospital every day and all night. After about 2 weeks, the nurses talked Dad into getting a good night's sleep else where - I guess with friends there in Santa Cruz.
Looking back, Dad said he thinks that the nurses knew Grover was dying that night. The next morning Dad came back to the hospital and was told that Grover had passed.
Dad also said that Grover was engaged to marry, I am assuming, during that year. Apparently his fiance was not treated well by the female members of the family.
Grover was brought back to Fresno, and buried in Belmont Memorial Park. His mother Emily is buried next to him.
