Winch Family - First Street home Purchase

I found this document and attachments in my father's, Myron E. Winch, papers in a green metal box in 2021. I had never looked in it before as I thought that it was my grandfather's last wife's artifacts.

These documents start in 1947 when my father bought his mother's home. These documents read as:

Masters Family - Deborah Carline Masters - page 5 - Carmel Wedding

This is the only picture that I have on Aunt Deb and Uncle Dick on their wedding day. I changed it to black and white - below right. They were married in Carmel, Monterey, California.

This article reads as:
Deborah Haar, Is Married To Richard Nelson
Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Nelson are establishing their home at 764 Michigan Avenue. The couple were married October 8th in the Church of the Wayfarer in Carmel.
The bride, the former Deborah Haar of Fresno, was attired in a candlelight lace gown over matching taffeta. The gown was fashioned with a strapless bodice and a ballerina length skirt. A matching jacket of lact which was styled with a nylon tulle yoke was worn with the gown.
The bride's only jewelry was a single strand of pearls. She added a beige Satin hat with a bow and streamers of veiling in the back. Her boquet of cymdium orchids was arranged on a golden bound Bible.
Miss Lola Winch was her sister's maid of honor. Her strapless ballerina length gown was made of Chantilly lace over blue taffeta. She added a jacket of matching lace which was designed with a Peter Pan collar. She carried a yellow gladioli boquet.
Dr. B.M. Sorauf was the best man and Arthur B. Wiebe was the usher. Myron Winch gave his sister in marriage. Reb. Filmore Gray officiated and Ralph Farr sang prenuptial selections.
The church was decorated with baskets of yellow hued chrysanthemums.
Mrs. Emily Winch wore a gray silk dress for her daughter's wedding. The mother of the bride-groom, Mrs. H.W. Lewellyn of Selma, was clad in a wine hued suit. Both add corsages of gardenias.
The reception was in the Pine Inn. The bride's table was centered with a tiered cake which was flanked by silver candelabra and encircled with white carnations. Champagne and hors d'oeuvres were served from a table which was decorated with white gladioli.
The couple honeymooned in Carmel and Palm Springs.
The bride is a member of the Junior Parlor Lecture Club. She was graduated from the Roosevelt High School.
Nelson, a son of Mrs. Lewellyn and Henry Nelson, both of Fresno, is employed as a pharmacist for the College Pharmacy.

Winch Family - Myron Erwin Winch - Winch Triplett Wedding and Reception - page 1

This is the album for my parents' wedding pictures. They were married on 16 December 1950.

My Dad always said that he gave Grandpa, Mom's Dad, by marrying his daughter for him.

I found 1 or 2 other pictures that I will be adding to this blog.

The pictures I add will be in their original sequence in the above book.

The pictures might look a little fuzzy. This is the clearest that I could get them. They are more fuzzy if you click on them to enlarge them on the blog.

This is the picture of my parents walking down the aisle from the altar after the ceremony. My Mom is wearing a brown satin dress with a Juliet cap. I don't know what happened to the dress, but I did see the cap. She had stored it in the attic and was very dainty. It had also been chewed on

This is a picture of my parents at the reception of their wedding. I do not know who the gentleman is on the left side of the picture.

On the right are: Ione (Aunt Billie) Gertrude Leonard Martin, Winnie Gladys Carpenter Leonard (my great grandmother) and Winnifred Olive Leonard (Aunt Fred). Aunt Fred and Aunt Billie were my grandmother's, Lenoir Inez Leonard's, sisters.

Carroll Family - Ida May Carroll - Obituary

I found Ida Mae Carroll Nelson's obituary on 18 September 2021. I have found- in the past - many articles on the family.

This obituary reads as follows:

Mrs. Ida Nelson, Fresno Golfer, Is Found Dead

Mrs. Ida Carroll Nelson, 41, who last week won a trophy in tournament play at the Fort Washington Golf Club, collapsed and died of a heart attack just as she was preparing to leave her home for a day of golf at the club.

Her husband, Richard H. Nelson, a pharmacist, found her lying dead on the floor when he returned to their home at 431 Echo  Avenue after work last night at about 6:30 o'clock.

Her physician reported she had been dead six or eight hours. Relatives said she had been under treatment for high blood pressure but had suffered no previous heart attack.

Injured in Accident

She was injured seriously in an automobile accident some months ago and relatives said the golf play was undertaken partly to help her recover from the injuries. She began playing golf about six months ago.

In the Fort Washington tournament December 13th, she won the temporary division cup in the Rena Coleman trophy play.

Mrs. Nelson had lived in Fresno for 27 years and was a graduate of the Fresno Technical High School and the Central California Commercial College. She was employed by the Eastern Outfitting Company for nearly 20 years for a number of years as the credit manager.

Active In Club Work

She and Nelson were married about 16 years ago. She left the employ of the store during World War II when her husband was sent to Farragut, Ida., for naval training. She was a member of the Emblem CLub, made up of wives of members of the Elks Lodge, and while at the Farragut base she was active with other Elks' wives in providing entertainment for the trainees.

She was an active worker in St. James Episcopal Parish affairs, serving as a chairman in a recent every member canvass. In the Parlor Lecture Club, she served last year as the chairman of the garden department. She also was affiliated with the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Palomar Club, the Raisina Chapter of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Fort Washington Golf Club. When the Soroptimist Club was formed she was a charter member.

Born in Boston

She was a native of Brockton, Mass.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ida Moore of Fresno, and three brothers, James Carroll of Fresno, William (Billie) Carroll of San Francisco and Orion Carroll of Bass Lake.

The funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM Friday in the St. James Episcopal Cathedral with Dean James M. Malloch officiating. Burial will be in the Belmont Memorial Park with the Lisle Funeral Home in Charge.

Magnusson Family - Gustave Charlotta Magnusdotter - Probate

I found this probate record for Gustava Charlotta Magnusdotter on 4 September 2021 in Arkiv Digital.

What was most important for me was that this record lists her children, including my great grandfather Johan August Albin Jarl.

I do not read Swedish ver batum.

This records state that on 1887 14 November, in the "Solder village under Osrarp, in Norra Sadsjo village, the Wife, Charlotta Gustafva Järl,  died on the 28 of June, and leaves her widower A.J. Jarl, and children

1. Amanda born 1864 2 October

2. Anna Wihelmina born 1867 on 7 January.

3. Josefina Albertina born 1874 on 4 May.

4. Johan August born 1874 on  2 May.

5. Hulda Emelia born 1877 14 November.

Carl born 1880 on November 24
Gustaf 1886 6 June.
The next paragraph talks about  the guardianship of the children in Osvrap........ "bind else all so well the estate to assets were debts and few take records. Not to take note, but Enkoman Mem [widower] was urged that during the honest phase bind else [?] all so well the estate to assets were  debts and few take  records."

[I have tried to use Google translate the above, and that's about all I got, and I don't completely understand it. I have cut out part of the document due to illegible wording.]

Färst upptas tillgångarna translates to "The assets are first occupied:

The next line reads something as 100 to the house.
1 Silver "pocket"[purse] 10
Cups a bowl 1 pot 2 coffee makers 7.00
iron shoes 2 pot 2 pans, 1 coffee [?] 4.00
2 tanned iron 1 [?] 1 [?] iron  1.50
Glass and porcelain tiles    3.00
Linens [?] 5.00

There is more which I cannot translate.

Jarl Family - John Theodore Jarl Headstone

In the Summer of 2012 Brian and I took a "Family History Tour Roadtrip".

We went north east through South and North Dakota and then on through Minnesota and down to Iowa.

Using the Internet we found Kiron Cemetery outside of the very small hamlet of Kiron, Crawford County, Iowa.

Following the directions we headed North and then turned East on a small dusty road. We could tell that there was a cemetery ahead.

We turned right, under the black metal sign, and drove about 20 feet in then stopped.

There were alot of graves. As I was rolling my window down I told Brian "it's going to be hard to find Albin and John."

I looked down and there to the right of our car was Albin's grave right alongside the road. John's grave was slightly above his and to the right.

John's headstone is simple:
JOHN T
JARL
1905 - 1918

I think that John was a victim of the 1918 Flu Pandemic. It affected his heart valves leading to his death.

Magnusson Family - Gustava Charlotta Magnusdotter - page 4 - Death Record

This is the death record, or collection record,  for  Gustava Charlotta Magnusdotter which took place in Norra Sandsjö Parish, Jonköpings lang, during the year of 1887.

Gustava Charlotta was the 25th death entry for the year 1887. She died on June 27. She was married, and lived in Osrarps Soldattorp Wastra [?] Soldattorp [soldier village]. [Prosteri defines as residence, by Interglot.com/dictionary.]

She was 41 years, 7 months, and 17 days old. She was married. Her cause of death was Krafta or cancer in English.

I had been diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2021. It took me until August 12, to remember that one of my Swedish 2nd great grandmother was also diagnosed with cancer. My believe is that she had breast cancer as it would have been apparent upon a visual examination. Mine was not apparent until a mammography had been performed several times.

My surgery was on August 10, 2021, performed by Dr. James Anderson, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper Wyoming.

Winch Family - Myron Erwin Winch - page 22 - 1998 Coronary Artery Bypass

Dad had a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft [CABG] in 1998 in Fresno. We were still in Santa Maria.

While he was in Saint Agnes Medical Center for his surgery, I brought Robert who was about 3 years old at the time, to see him in the hospital.

Robert came up to and climbed on the bed, sat down on the side of the bed, and then he and Grandpa shared the Hamburger. None of the staff said a word.

Dad had smoked for many years. He quit smoking in 1967 or so, after he had hernia surgery. The respiratory Staff had brought in a smallish machine on wheels, which he breathed into and coughed up "junk" out of his lungs. This was a good thing. Amongst the mucous he coughed up was black "soot" like looking stuff. The Respiratory Therapist told him that the black "soot" was the inhaled tar and nicotine from smoking cigarettes. Dad quit smoking day, and as far as I know he never smoked again.

In 1989, Dad had a heart attack while driving on a small country road to the Belmont Country Club Golf Course. He was driving his little gold colored Subaru. He parked the car in the lot and then tried to pick up his golf bag. [The golf bag is big and leather that he purchased in Mexico. We still have it in our garage.

Almost immediately, he stopped due to chest discomfort and profuse sweating.

He should have called 911 from the pro shop, but instead he drove 4 to 5 miles back home. It was the same road that he drove to get to the country club with orchards on either side. [My concern at that point was that he could have lost consciousness and crashed into a tree, or worse, hit another car.]

He came home, and told my mom what he was experiencing. She called their MD, who told her to take him to the hospital right then and there. But "OH NO"! He HAD to take a shower first because he was sweating so much.

My mom called me at work around noon. She said "the doctor thinks Dad made it to the hospital before he had a heart attack."

I paged Brian. He was going down to Anaheim because his mother had a heart attack the day prior to this. He said he was surprised when the pager [we had no cell phones then], and saw it was our home phone number. He called and I told him Andrew and I were going to Fresno because of Dad being in the hospital.

Andrew and I drove straight to the hospital. The staff actually let us both up into ICU. Once in Dad's room, Andrew immediately got on the bed [he was only 3 years old at that time].

Dad had a heart cath which showed that the heart attack was due to a blocked off Circumflex cardiac artery. [This vessel curls around the heart to the back left side.] He had developed "collaterals" which helped to increase the amount of oxygen to the back side of the heart as the blockage continued to obstruct more and more of the circumflex.

As a side note, before leaving Santa Maria, I had grabbed the bill from the State to renew the car registration.

Once we had seen Dad and made sure he was ok, Mom took Andrew back to their house, and I found a AAA close by. It was brand new. It was Friday at 1630. The AAA closed at 1700.

I ran in with the bill and was talking with the man at the counter as to what I needed to do. I looked at the bill and I needed the car to be smogged before I could get reregistered!

I mentioned that to the man at the counter and he said: "No worried we can do it here! You will be our first person here to get their car's catelitic converter checked!"

WInch Family - Myron Erwin Winch - page 16 - Skiing 1947

I think that Dad was going skiing a friend, possibly up to Badger Pass near Yosemite. I don't think that he ever had a convertible, and not one this nice and new at that time. It might have been John Stewart's. The date of this picture is 1947.

I believe that this picture was taken after 1945 and before 1950. I can't remember whose car this was, but my Dad and his friend Don Stewart went driving one weekend. When they drove the car to the end of the driveway, instead of flipping a coin, They - one or both of them - drank a shot of alcohol and then figured out which way they would turn.

I wasn't told much more than that. I think I got the above information from my Mom.

I think in 1944 - 1945, my Dad arranged to meet his sister Doris in Washington DC. He had been stationed in Texas. Am not sure where Doris was stationed at that time. From the pictures I have it looks like they hit all the highlights of DC. I will post more as I find them.

So I am trying to remember if Dad was in Washington D.C. twice as this picture is definitely not in the winter.

This Doris with the Washington Monument to the left of the picture with the reflecting pool.

I am not sure if this is in from of the Supreme Court or the Capital building.

This is possibly a picture of my Dad after he enlisted in the Army Air Corp [which is the precursor of the Air Force]. The picture was probably sent to his mother Emily.

He spent most of his time in the service during 1941 - 1945 in Texas. He was training to be a Flight Officer for a B-25.

This is a picture my Dad sent to his sister in 1944. The picture reads: "To Sis Love Myron."

This picture was taken in 1945. Dad was still stationed in Texas. During the week prior to the atomic bombs being dropped on Japan, he received his orders for deployment to the Pacific Theatre. Because of the bombs being dropped he never was transferred to the Pacific
