On July 9th, 1933 Grover made the Fresno Bee Republican. He is on the far left of the boys. See the transcription below the article.
Boy Bike Riders Tame Mountains - Alpine stuff Lures Cyclists - Boys Ride to Huntington Lake
Five Fresno Boys have been taking their cycling seriously during the past few days as evidenced by a trip to Huntington Lake, a jaunt of about seventy miles up steep mountain roads.
Bicycle riding has become quite fashionable, but there has been no record of any of the faddists attempting the feat Grover Masters, 17, William Burkhart, 15, William Bradley, 14, Robert Ray, 13, and Ray Wood 15, accomplished. They rode out of Fresno at 3:30 o'clock one morning and arrived at the lake at 6 o'clock in the evening.
Of course, a lot of walkee-and-pushee was necessary as it would take a powerful and experienced cyclist to mount the Tollhouse and Huntington Lake grades.
To bike the distance in a day would be a good workout for one of the bunion derbyists, made famous by C. C. Pyle a few years ago, but mountains mean nothing, even to young Bobby who can barely reach the peddles of his wheel.
It took the Fresnans five hours to to Tollhouse, where they started the first climb. They took their time during the trip to the lake, but the return journey was made easily.
